Palazzo Strozzi in 1956 worked out an art exibition to celebrate Pontormo artistic genius, the main character of a cultural new expression that was just positive considered.
Today this art exibition underlines the artistic and cultural itinerary of these two main characters who represent the Florentine Mannerism: Pontormo and Rosso Fiorentino.
Giovan Battista di Jacopo named the Rosso Fiorentino and Jacopo Carrucci named the Pontormo were born just a few month afar eachother in 1494 in a period splitted in two different historical periods. At the beginning of XV century Italy and Europe enjoyed a new political awake that ensured a new economic and cultural prosperity.
The political layout changed at the end of the century when Charles VIII king of France and Charles V king of Asburg invaded the Italian kingdom.
The Mannerism raised during this unsteady period with the aim to create something new and outstanding.
This new artistic current focus on the eternal struggle against harm and oppression with the aim to defeat and shake the system.
The Pontormo and Rosso were the main representatives of the Mannerism. Both considered genius, apply in their masterpieces a real artistic revolution because they were able to handle a new technic respect to the usual taste.
Both studied close to another important artist of this century: Andrea del Sarto.He committed to his students some important decoration of the Santissima Annunziata Church.
