It was in 1820, that Giuseppe Antonio Bianda, a native of Canton Ticino (Switzerland) - a place renownes for its fine knives- purchased the ground floor premises on Via della Vigna Nuova to open a shop for sharpening tools for farmers and craftsmen and selling pocket knives that workmen used for their frugal bread-and-cheese lunches. Early in the twentieth century the great-grandson Anatolio expanded the business with a large assortment of Italian and foreign cutting implements. Today the business is in the hands of Anatolio's great-grandchikdren. The shop, with its display windows dating from the 1930s, offers a wonderful blend of craft skills in sharpening blades and retail sales of both handmade and famous brand knives.
